Cavallino Classic Modena 2024
Our prestigious Cavallino Classic Modena, a three-day celebration of master Enzo Ferrari and his work, is officially concluded.
The show graced the grounds of Casa Maria Luigia, the gorgeous estate of renowned chef Massimo Bottura and his wife Lara, who reminisced on the event’s inception together with Cavallino Chairman & CEO Luigi Orlandini.
“I’m American. I grew up with a Ford station wagon, not Ferraris in any way. The last 30 years here in Italy have been a huge learning curve. These cars are about passion, they’re about obsession, they’re about dreams. Ferraris are storytelling machines. The first conversation we had about this was right after COVID. We didn’t know what the world was going to be”, Lara said.
The festivities began with a champagne reception and a curated selection of traditional recipes prepared by Chef Bottura. The following day, 30 exceptional Ferraris, with a perfect mix of road and racing models, with several awards presented to the best examples by our international and experienced judges. A parade to the Museo Casa Natale Enzo Ferrari ensued with a special escort from the Modena Police Department. It all led to the final day when the owners were awarded the opportunity to drive on the roads where Enzo and his drivers once tested their cars and a finish at Casa Canossa with a gourmet lunch by Michelin-starred chef Andrea Incerti Vezzani.
A new prize, The Spirit of Sally Award, celebrates the amazing spirit of Ferrari collector and driver Sally Mason-Styrron, who spent much of her life racing and touring her unique Ferraris in all the most important events. While Sally unfortunately passed away and was unable to join us, her memory was kept alive at this year’s show by her loving husband Dudley Mason. The prize was awarded to the 1989 Ferrari Testarossa - chassis #81603 whose owners, the Wagner family, drove the car all the way from Salzburg, Austria to Modena, Italy, a feat that Sally would be proud of.
The “Best of Show Ferrari Classiche”, presented by B&O CEO Kristian Teär and Andrea Modena, Head of Ferrari Classiche, was awarded to Karim Said’s 1997 Ferrari F50 - chassis #107125.
The “Best of Show Competition”, presented by Ferretti CEO Alberto Galassi together with the Olympic champion swimmer Filippo Magnini, was awarded to the 1954 Ferrari 250 Monza - chassis #0466.
The “Best of Show Gran Turismo”, presented by R.M. Sotheby’s Augustin Sabatié-Garat was assigned to Ing. Piero Ferrari for his perfectly preserved 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB4 - chassis #14405; his grandson Enzo Mattioli Ferrari collected the prize on his behalf.
Lastly, the Chairman Award was assigned by our Chairman & CEO Luigi Orlandini to the 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB4 Competizione - chassis #15681, driven and raced all across Europe by Dudley Mason and his lovely wife Sally for decades.
Luigi Orlandini addressed the guests, emphasizing Cavallino’s responsibility to preserve and promote Enzo’s heritage while thanking the custodians of the cars and the judges for being custodians of all this knowledge.
“Ours is a great responsibility which we uphold through our magazine and our Concorso d'Eleganza. While our judges maintain the same stringent and objective standards in car evaluation, our team is making great efforts to make the event increasingly unique, enjoyable, international, and open to all generations.”
